Die Mad About It, the beta release

Maybe this is overdue — but I hope it’s worth waiting for.

Inspired by a tweet by Melanie Dione (@beauty_jackson), “Die Mad About It” became the viral battle cry for every woman who is fed up with having to explain or excuse the fact that she uses contraception for any reason, but mainly because liking sex doesn’t equal liking pregnancy and/or babies anymore, if it ever did. Honestly, though I’ve loved every needleworked version of this that I’ve seen so far, I couldn’t resist going for something big. I just felt that if you’re going say this to someone, you really ought to mean it.

It’s the kind of statement you really want commit to, and you want to enunciate it clearly, like a fucking lady.

original design by AE Matson of Grimalkin Crossing XSD.

In flaming red and gold, too. Design area =232w x 107h

I chose the red and gold colors for flames, yes — but they’re darker shades because the rights of women to control their bodies and their own destinies is an OLD fight, and the bolder colors signify that we’re not giving up. After much backing and forth-ing over the border, I chose a fairly dark gray because the principle in question is a hard line, a non-negotiable line, and flowery vines just weren’t going to cut it. The lilies are to honor that it is a women’s issue — and a reminder that women’s issues are human issues.

The wisps of lighter gray? They felt like smoke or steam to me — either one implies a heat source, right?

This is going to look amazing on hand dyed fabric.

“Die Mad About It” is still in beta because I haven’t done the model stitch for it, yet. The pattern is divided into ten B&W pages, eight of which are the actual chart itself. I’ve done all I can to mark out clearly where the pages go, but I am still quite limited by my design software. Each page of the chart is big and readable, and I’ve deliberately chosen symbols that are distinct and easy to follow.

After a little bit of encouragement from the Grimalkin Crossing support group on fb, however, I’ve decide to release the beta version out into the wild, but at a drastically reduced price to reflect that there might errors in the chart — the kind you only find when you stitch it.

DIE MAD ABOUT IT in beta is only $7.50 until the date I publish the final PDF with any errors corrected. AND, if you buy it in beta, you will also receive the final, corrected version from me as a “thank you!”

If you’re interested in adding any other GCXSD PDFs, here’s a current price list:

Thank you again for all the kind words, encouragement, and constructive critique you’re offering — the feedback has been wonderful. If you’d like to purchase any of our PDFs, or even just to say “Hi!”, reach out to me thusly (aematson ([at]) metaphorpublications ([dot]) com), but without all the bot-busting falderal. Or on Twitter — I’ve got a new account set up just for this: Zenstitcher61 .  Or on fb, if you like. I’m still debating what to do about setting up an automated shopping cart for this side hustle, so also thank you for bearing with me on this just a little while longer.
